Miles By Land And Sea

An arbitrary measurement
For land owners' style
A political decision
Based on whim and trial
Five two eight zero feet in length
Is one statute mile

One minute (a sixtieth of one degree)
Nautical amplitude
A mathematical foundation
It's based on latitude
Six zero seven six feet in length
Is more than attitude

If you multiply one point one five
Times the statute miles
You'll convert from land to sea
And compute nautical files
