Martha, My Dear

Reading over your shoulder
standing beside your desk
I make deep breaths
against the nape of your neck
hoping you'll pick up my scent
Coming so close to turning your head
to steal an unsolicited kiss

I can't bring myself to speak
unwelcome advances won't be met
sexual harassment
I can't afford another embarassment

I know that you just said yes to shut me up,
to get me off your back
I wouldn't expect you to show interest
to reciprocate
Saunter past my cubicle
and check on me through the corner of your eye
do you clear your throat to signal me it's time?

This love I feel is only an illusion
just as you agreed
to accompany me to dinner
My desire is a playground crush
with no more merit
than a topical compliment
and its subsequent blush

I've only been on the receiving end of disappointment
My hasty heart
has only been thrown back
hook-torn and unwanted
(chuckle) I don't like you, Wes
(laughter) (sniggers)
Caught kissing a little black girl behind grandma's armchair
Gullible
