Lunatic

Insane asylums warehouse the deranged lunatic
who exhibit behaviors absurd, wild or foolish;
peculiar mental symptoms that are profoundly sick
and often manifesting conduct outright ghoulish.

Some have hallucinations, imagined perceptions:
seeing sights that are absent, hearing voices not there
tasting and smelling poisons, feeling false impressions;
delusional thought process completely unaware.

Some sit for hours speaking incoherent babble:
unintelligible sounds meaninglessly uttered
and noisy repetition with internal squabble;
an excessive excitement in which thinking's scattered.

Insane asylums ensnare just a few lunatics,
the rest are here among us operating like kooks
creating disharmony from unreality shticks;
troubled lives on the fringes as undiscovered spooks.
