Lucidity

She's smiling at me so gorgeously
And I should smile back, I know
But I can't process this at all
After what I just saw eyes closed

The sheets I so readily jumped into
Last night feel foreign now
As I awaken to reality
With no shift in consciousness allowed

I went to bed with a beautiful girl
And as the clock slowly ticked
I fell into a dream that I knew instantly,
In a place that revealed itself quick

So I climbed from the bed of a false reflection
Where a window of day lost its light
I told myself that I wanted it to
So I could go for a walk in the night

I started to see myself in the street
And then on a bridge in the park
Standing there so solemnly
But also alone in the dark

When I finished clearing my thoughts atop
I looked to the water below
To picture me there in the waves amidst
With that beautiful girl I know

The place that I created here
Was solely mine to choose
Yet I felt so wretched, asking,
"What on earth did I go and do?"

For frolicking in that stream
Fervid lips met then withdrew
And I knew well from the taste I'd found
That in lieu of her was you
