Lost Lessons

i am twice my age when i knew it all.
no one could tell me i was headed for a fall.
love had no meaning in smoke filled rooms.
the clouds dissapeared, but the pain still looms.

our hearts heard the music, but our vision was blurred.
the past keeps on calling, but the present seems absurd.
in sweet harmonic melody, i hear the past refrain.
it gives me hope and helps me cope and pacify the pain.

the world just doesn't seem to care if we all live or die.
soulful truth confuses us, and we all wonder why.
but music soothes the savage beast, and keeps the fools at bay.
and teaches us lost lessons to help us find our way.

so hope eternal, once again i cling to your sweet breast.
and in my hour of discontent, you offer me up rest.
i'll take it, for it's all i have in days of solitude.
while i quench my thirst with yesterday and memories reveiwed.
