Long Distance Lorry Driver

Thunderous wheels which grind upon black sun baked road,
Oily rusted panels which rattle and clamour when slowed,
Shake of the cabin yet relaxed the driver slouches high,
Regal in his metallic throne as the roadside trundles by.

Onward miles of stretched out distance a wheel knows no less,
Blank to the moment's continuing phase desire forms the rest,
Cradle of future's value in the hands of a stranger out late,
Carting someone's treasure south within sturdy wooden crates.

In a zone all alone but the radio sings through the night,
Except for tunnels and for hills that tower left to right,
Photograph of their family now inside rainy village walls,
Somewhere far from these long roads that lead nowhere at all.
