Live Shadows

Moonlight's heralded by baying howls,
proclaiming rights of kith and kin.
Wolves resume their nightly prowls,
shortly after such songs begin.

Every harmonic they employ,
rises from upturned massive jaws.
And an elated Moon beams with joy,
as they pay homage without pause.

With dappled coats in shades of gray,
their yellow eyes hold a cold stare.
And slyly concealed from prey,
they haunt the night with little care.

Live shadows of the forest trail,
they sniff out smells to find their way.
And praise the moon to no avail,
for She'll appear but will not stay.

Nocturnal jaunts in glen and glade,
like lords of darkness dressed in black.
And taking stock of all surveyed,
families form a hunting pack.
