Little footsteps on the stairs
Coming down in thundering pairs...
"To bed to bed,"
The parents said
The footsteps kept coming
down the stairs
"Tomorrow is another day,
To run and jump and sing and play."
Quietly they shut the door
Hoping...
to hear no more
Little footsteps on the stairs
Coming down in thundering pairs...
"Goodnight," they said, "turn out the light..."
Then the parents left their site
Mom, heard a thump!
Dad, heard a bump!
A little giggle and then a cry
Dad climbed the stairs to find out why...
Dad whispered to his little ones
"this is the time to rest, my sons..."
"No more footsteps on the stairs,
No more coming down in pairs..."
