Lightning Blinks

Stealing shadows light has won,
a dullness evokes despair.
And clouds cloak a waning sun,
as birds fall silent in the air.

The sky's smeared with dingy grays,
over diminished blues.
And behind its silver haze,
heaven's bruised with purple hues.

Rain splatters as drops are shed,
and flowers close their petals tight.
For as stormy clouds are bled,
a shroud of mist dims the light.

Up in the darkening gloom,
lightning blinks its jagged eye.
And with a tumultuous boom,
thunder responds with a cry!

Many of my poems reflect the uniqueness and special circumstances of my upbringing. more…
