Life Story

Andy Lyle 1951 (Londonderry)

His life story hangs in frames
Around the room he shares
With memories from his past
When he was without cares
Safe in his photograph cocoon
He plies from room to room
Wishing that his youth had
Not fled from him so soon
Leaving behind the fading sight
The struggle with the stairs
Muffled voices on the radio
And the loss of so much hair
He never thought his last days
Would be lived out all alone
Trying to make ends meet
While waiting on the phone
To ring and startle him
From reverie so clear
Of when they were together
Holding each other near
My sister was the bride he took
To give reason to his rhyme
Until her life was ended
Long before it was her time
The grief tore every memory
That they lovingly had shared
Tears falling like raindrops
All emotions they lay bared
And so another picture
Joins the story on the walls
For him to stop and ponder
What is the reason for it all
