Life in the Slower Lane

Slow down, it's about time
You've reached your destination
way ahead of schedule
having spent your whole life
in the fast lane
both literally and figuratively.
Put on the brakes, rest a while
You've achieved your goals
much earlier than most
but what have you accomplished
besides burning rubber and gas?
Much like the proverbial hare
waiting for the tortoise
while all the while along the way
missing out on the scenery.
To take the freeway or the byways?
All you can do now is
watch others living life
in the slower lane
wishing you could start all over again.
