Letting Go

This dawn I turned loose of wistful chimera
that robust yearning of my mid-life,
viscerally bound 'round the vagaries
of wishful passions tied inextricably to you.

At dusk I firmed my grip on capriciousness
holding tight to the shilly shally disarray
of what used to be a loosely struck resolve
binding ill-starred lovers gone adrift.

In the twilight glow I tapped to the silence of our retreat
snapped to the gloved clap of an empty-hand
played the last note, rapped to the final stroke
by midnight deaf and blind I finally woke.
