Last Night

Hunger walked Hope Road last night,
evading city lights.
Light-headed drunks sway
like ferries on a furious flood.
Car doors open wide,
swallowing ladies of the night.
Night life enticed young souls
 to lust after flesh.
Flesh, soft and cozy tissue,
shielded skins from winter’s breath.
Many lost causes, hungrily, devour death.

Hunger walked Hope Road last night,
clothed in delightful black.
Black cats, with nocturnal eyes,
Prowl the city streets.
Street children, ignoring time,
play among dirty puddles.
Puddles of memories plagued famished minds.
Minds caught in ruthless urban snares.
Dreams die slowly from puffing poisoned air.

Earle Francis Brown

I was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I was told that I can write, so I wrote and continues to write. I am currently living in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. I enjoy reading "real" poetry. My favorite books are the Pslams, Proverbs and Songs of Solomon.Poetry is not just vocabulary, and use of metaphors and formats. Don't be tricked. Poetry should speak life. I love a poem that tells a story. The most memorable poems are the ones that tell someone's story. I don't care about ratings; the truth is always hated. People are people where-ever we go. more…
