Laid in a manger

Laid in a manger bare,
Under the watchful care
Of your blessed Mother in her sweet devotion.
Oh Christ Child, Son of God,
The Father's Holy Word --
And Prince of Peace to this world's dark commotion.

Angels proclaim your birth
Unto a slumbering earth,
And wary shepherds hearken to their telling;
How in yon Bethlehem
Is born the Hope of Men --
Then seraphs throng the skies, the night dispelling.

Magi from lands afar,
Led by the Guiding Star,
Pay homage at your crib so mean and lowly;
See now these Wise Men bring
Gifts hailing you as king --
While speaking of your death as priest most holy.

O Stem of Jesse's Rod!
My Jesus, Saviour, God!
No gold, nor myrrh nor incense can I offer;
But Lord of David's line,
All that I am is thine --
My heart, my soul, my life to you I proffer.
