Just Human

When she was young she felt her needs
Longings for a companion, a friend, a confidante
Boys were gross, bullish, boastful and icky

She had meet a young girl down the street
Who share her secrets, desires and silly wishes
Things important, boys would have laughed

With age came primal urges, for her mate
The one she could be herself around, no fears
For love, hope, shelter from a cruel world

He came as she started to change, began her search
His thoughtful ways charmed her, little things
She blossomed opening wide her pedals, welcome

As she changed so did he change, accepting but arrogant
He felt the call of the wild, she the call for home
And they parted speaking words, of pain, of desires

Her heart breaks from pain, unexpected tears, betrayal
Time passes in the womb of protections, walls imagined
“No more pain for me” cries and curses against fate

Loneliness draws the mind back to times of happiness
Thoughts of a friend ‘true', away from evolution
Emotional health demands love, a friend, a confidante

She meets a woman, kindred soul birthed by similar pain
Forming the bond of friends, BFF, a trusted one
Love begins new, growing from the isle of ‘Sophia'

Nature's path abandon, swimming in the seas of self
Void from nature's intended, end of the species call
Drives traded for moment's pleasure, loneliness masked

Clouds part as a voice asks, “Is it OK to hug the manager?”
His smile and playful eyes open her ‘little girl', revisited
“No, just for this once,” she replies shyly, surprised looks

Time resets and begins again, hopes, dreams reborn
Her friends are still her friends though drifting further
She moves to his city to be near, faith in his heart.

They spend every day discovering, learning to comfort
Bold are the hearts of lovers, new, willing companions
Walking the path of the species' call, just human.
