Joy's Promise

Winter's finally nearing, the warmth leaving
Hair once blonde, shows a frosted glow
Blue eyes, take a new meaning
For the lover, friend, companion has left
After years of joy, pain, love unending.

‘Waiting' becomes the theme of living
For promised help from sons and daughters
Faces that smile reassuringly hiding discomfort
Speech that hides worry for their Mom
It's been a year or was it yesterday he left.

She sets before her computer looking
His face still fresh and the pain unending
An old picture found of him smelling flowers
Memories of touches, hugs, lost kisses and wishing
For the coming reunion and joy's promise renewed.
