It's Worthwhile

It's easy alright to be pleasant while
Your life goes flowing by like happy song
But then the man worthwhile is one who'll smile
When everything goes so completely wrong.

It's feet of worried heart where troubles berth
That always come it seems with later years;
The smile that's worth the praises of the earth
Is one that always shines through pain and tears.

By cynic, sad, and fallen on the way
Who had no strength for all the toil and strife,
The highways of the world are filled today;
Make up the sum and substance of this life.

With virtue, sorrow, in a smile can hide;
We find this very seldom I confide.
