Into the Void, Act IV: Coming Out of the Void, Chapter 4 -The Man With No Name

From all wise men, O Lord, protect us.

The dead man tells no tales,
While that live man utterly fails
To tell us anything of interest.

The stoic man tells only lies -
Fabrications that utterly belie
The secrets of his heart

The ignorant man believes the lie,
And continues onward to deny
The truth in front of his unseeing eyes.

The honest man speaks only truth,
While the oracle sayeth only soothe,
Those which contain none.

(What kind of man am I?
Shambling, hobbling.
Rambling, lost within.)

The good husband cares for his wife.
Without hesitation, he gives his life
To spare her from harm.

Likewise the love-struck boy cares naught but for his girl;
To save her life, he'd burn the world,
Everyone else be damned.

The selfish man drinks to his own health
For he cares only for himself
Everyone else be damned.

(What kind of man am I?
Shambling, hobbling.
Rambling, lost within.)

The evil man rapes the town,
While the noble man stands his ground,
Risking life and limb for the lives of others.

The fearful man only flees,
But would not, could he only see
The power hidden within.

(What kind of man am I?
Shambling, hobbling.
Rambling, lost within.)

The penniless man pays no debts,
While the rich man has but one regret;
His inability to collect
What he feels entitled to

The blind man sees none of the ills
That plague this world, and only fills
His heart with what is pure

(What kind of man am I?
Shambling, hobbling.
Rambling, lost within.)

It's easy to be brave when you're somebody else
But it's harder to be free when I'm anybody else
But me.

(I was but a child when I first fell victim to your smile
And seven years later I'm still rendered utterly helpless by the mere sight of it)

What kind of man am I?
Who runs away from his obligations?
Who chooses to hide
From uncomfortable situations?
Who's afraid to tell the one he loves how he really feels?
I'm no man
Worth calling a man
Until I
Rectify
All of this.
I'm no man.

Let us never speak of this again.

I am a university student from Texas, and a bit of a closet-poet. Perhaps I should keep it in the closet, but I am interested in getting feedback on some of my poetry. Let me know what you think! I used to write a lot of poetry when I was a little kid, but eventually lost interest as I got older. I started writing poetry again as a form of art-therapy during a really hard time in my life. I like to try to experiment with different styles and strange metaphors. Understandably, this can make some of my poetry less accessible at times, but occasionally I feel like it pays off. more…
