Insomniatic Relapse, or: Tangled

Sleep deprived,
My thoughts derived
From back-of-mind;
From darkest confines,
Images unkind
Begin to unwind.

{And though I'm blind,
I'll hide behind
This door with no hinges,
The lock with no key;
Shut up tight,
Safe inside,
You'll never get to me.

(But this barrier is breaking
Down)

It's the wrong place to hide.
We were tangled inside,
Left there, mangled, to die
In the place They reside
As They all came alive.

And you'll see the signs
Of events prophesied;
Portents of the night
It is said They will rise.

(I try to shut them out
[But it only postpones
The inevitable result])}

Sleep deprived,
My thoughts derived
From back-of-mind;
From darkest confines,
Images unkind
Begin to unwind.

{And though I'm blind,
I will climb
This cliff with no handholds,
The drop is so steep;
Way up high,
A safe divide,
You'll never get to me.

(But this precipice is caving
In)

It's the wrong place to climb,
We were tangled in lines
Where we dangled so high
On the crumbling cliffside
As we ran out of time.

And you'll be dismayed
That the lines are so frayed;
The longer we stay,
The more threads break away.}

Now I sleep
But the thoughts keep;
They continue to seep
Into the open seams
Of my restless dreams....

I am a university student from Texas, and a bit of a closet-poet. Perhaps I should keep it in the closet, but I am interested in getting feedback on some of my poetry. Let me know what you think! I used to write a lot of poetry when I was a little kid, but eventually lost interest as I got older. I started writing poetry again as a form of art-therapy during a really hard time in my life. I like to try to experiment with different styles and strange metaphors. Understandably, this can make some of my poetry less accessible at times, but occasionally I feel like it pays off. more…
