Inside the Rose

Go inside a rose.
Fall into the velvet blanket of memories.
Let someone else fall onto the thorn.
Or down the stem of truth.
I am happy where I lay.
From the outside a ray of perfection.
No one knows the secrets within.
I wither from the core of love.
Even though I seem to share beauty.
Even though a dozen dies in a day.
The rose stands frozen.
Sleek and slender.
A snob to the daisy below.
Where the rose has arms of envy.
A seed could only dream.
I have seen the glisten of morning's dew.
The stem broken, and cut with a blade.
So perhaps I'm not so enchanting as you think.
The petals of life, pulled from their breath.
And wilted away like never there in the first place.
