In an Autumn Wild

In an Autumn Wild
I dip my fingers into
A bushel of leaves

Leaves that have
Fallen, for skin too
Heavy with beauty

Their quiet faces
Solemn, gallant as
Their mother tree

Lets go, her children
Growing colder, their
Warmth too bright

For a mother old
For a mother cold
Who sighs, weeps

For love she cannot
Give, wound up in her
Bark imprisoned

By the cold, by
The ceaseless rain, by
An earthen voice

That tells her "sleep"
Though her love for
Her colors burns, they

Fade, those many
Glorious Children
Who in winter's embrace
Do die
