Impromptu lines on capt george

Impromptu line on Capt. George

Chagrin!; Chagrin!!
Except God, no mortal man beneath the sky
can lay him so low as can this
Here lies forlornly in his narrow crypt

They bear him to his resting-place
He was too silent in a sunless mould
To raise up visions of historical hours
 That such reminders of endurance
 May stouten heart now strained
By the craftsmanship left in our imperfect ways

 Here he lies in grief
who took to the junction in a tragic adventure
To fight it out in a frenzy
But unable to push them back - died
Lay still and fertilized the field.

To him I built this cairn of words
After the murmurs of mortar music
Mobbed him with a queer affection

Here lies his works; his ways
And life itself resign in a silent grave

 May the ground where he fell;
may the inhabitants beyond welcome him
