ice on the wire

icicles teardropped on the telephone wire-
varnished with its translucent tapered coat

delicately sheathed to its descending arch
it sways from pole to pole - highwire to wire

conformed to the stitching of the studded rain
tightroped to the felted snow –

braided and strewn to admire
like winter's necklace briefly worn

with one eyelash brushed /a fragment
of a fractured second /fragile chains of frozen coils

shivered and broke its tempered hold
/drapes of shards sliced through the pillowed sky

and formed a threshold on the sojourned road-
impaled pieces of miniscule prisms shattered and splayed

then suddenly swept by the wind's deliberate gust
- like an eagle swooping for it's destined prey

reminiscent of a poet's verse- momentarily
balanced on the wire - befallen to nature's dust.
