I've Been There

I have felt the gun you hold now.
The steel cold against my temple.
Listening to the click of the trigger,
Smelling the powder in the bullets,
It's metallic taste on my tongue.
Embracing the finality of it all.
An end to loneliness, despair, and pain.
Somehow I survived it.
I made it through until morning.
Every night, until morning.
Then morning until night.
The pain didn't go away,
But with the help of God,
And a few of his good people,
The loneliness did,
And took with it the despair.
And pain shared is pain lessened.
Let me share your pain,
As you have helped me carry mine.
