I left her there by the sea

She stands still on the dock
as if attempting to count
each star in both horizons
a thin wish, opaque, forlorn.

I remember her once from memory
a woman, with long shiny black hair
she had a glow and flowers adorned her ear
as she skipped along a cobblestone road
I was so very young then

I cannot help but to wonder
as I wait for tiny threads
to unravel from her parted lips
but nothing escapes but a sigh.

The thin dress she wore
once white,once illuminated
silently flickers in the breeze
as she stands motionless,
arms rested
drooping at her sides

If I could I would paint her
standing there silent in sunset
with hopeful eyes and wishing heart
for tho' old tears bring forth age and pain
to me she will always remain beautiful.

I'd take the canvas and lay it be
to replace her waiting position
by the hand I'd take her there
back down the cobblestone road
into the flower field
and tell her that
her lost love
is already there
waiting for her
