I know you
I know you
I know who you are
who you really are
in that spot deep deep down
in your soul
that spot that you no longer let anyone into
no longer acknowledge exists
no longer feel
what happened to you
where did you disappear to
why did you get so lost that you can't
be found
The child interrupted
the life disjointed, incongruous
to the childhood ideal
the life unstable the wanderlust all consuming
no stasis, no harmony, no continuity
a joining of two childhoods
of two times
of two places
of schools and friends
long forgotten
kept in the fog of memories....
the friendships gone, the faces faded, all that's left are the names and some dusty memories kept on a shelf
He remembers though
He remembers the crisp winter air on his skin
the smells of summer
the days spent laughing, the days spent living
the birds as they made their way to the warmer climes like a blanket across the skies....
oh he remembers the birds
The child now grown his face weathered
his brow furrowed
his spirit hardened
years of not belonging
to one time or one place
have created who he is now
but I know you
I know who you really are
I know your children
are your anchor to the now
I know you want
the stability
you never had for them
so they don't feel a sense
of unbelonging
but when they're grown
you'll journey again
I know you don't belong to one place
I know the emptiness you feel
the space you're trying to fill
I know the love you have for her
and the hope she can accept
that on the surface you're fine
but deep down you just don't fit in
you want her
need her
love her
I know you
I know who you really are
I am you
