I Am a Trick

In hiding
I am, holding onto wisps
of disguises, of masks and strings.
This youth of mine harbors my demise,
something stranger has been
holed up inside this heart. And,

I’ve lived behind this trick
so long that sick maze has moved,
its nature changed to form my inner desire,
to steal away even my truth.
I was meant to forget.
I was meant to doubt, and yet

after finding the way shadows do
not shade these eyes
and lies are laid out upon the ground
except, I found, while looking within.
This shielding mask has blinded me
to what I should have known.

My hidden place has been discovered
by another living by created thought.
His knowing eyes saw the lie
in the innocence that clouded my eyes,
and in turn, accidently showed the darker part
of his own heart. Silly Fate has interfered

into matters that I should have feared,
the One of Creation knows me too well
and knows to what cell I’ve placed my secrets
and found your partial ones the same,
those you sought to tame for naught,
and brought both of us to shame.
