Hoping The Pain Ceases

In the heart of winter's cold,
your smile was like a warm breeze.
And you wooed me with hope,
overcoming my defenses with ease.

I believed you were different,
from all the others I knew.
And I even thought you loved me,
when I fell in love with you.

I looked to you for my strength,
you were the rock I clung to.
Yet like a pillar of stone,
your heart's made of granite too.

Stripping truth of value,
you simply threw it away.
And then concocted stories,
lying to me day after day.

And I retreated into myself,
hiding, hoping the pain ceases.
Yet it still hurts deep inside,
for my heart's shattered to pieces.
