His "Word's-eye View" of the Game (4)

I will miss him when a player misses
The basket--big time! (He called this "air ball".)
I will miss him when a player does
A "no-look pass" resulting in a "slam dunk."
I will miss him when a player does
A "give and go" and "bunny hops" a "leaping
Leana," "building a house" in a "heartbrrreak."
I will miss the "no-harm, no foul," the "triple double,"
The "yo-yoing up and down," the "dribble drive,"
The "finger roll," the "mustard came off the hotdog,"
And yes, "It'll count if it goes...it goes." Lord, help me.
I will miss him...even when the other team has
Already put the game in the "ice-box."
And yes, yes...I will miss him even more...when our
Team has the "game's in the refrigerator, the door's
Closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling,
The butter's getting hard and the Jell-O's jiggling."
But most all, next to his humanity, I will miss
His "word's-eye view" of the game of basketball.
I saw the games...by listening to him.
