Hedonism

the brevity of petal life-
all midnight budding
a breeze glowing tangle
of sashaying crimson,
a mere candlewick flicker
to the anticipated explosion-
then eventually, the unfurling,
a spiraling of delicate spectrum,
veins of sun energy surging
through hues of bashful pink,
being modest with beauty
leaving the rest to the future
and to impatient daydreams,
before finally, the spectacle,
like the dropping of lace
the rose blooms
all confidence and grace
nectar perfection, natural muse
the queen of the sunshine
paramour in the moonlight-
petalfall is heartbreaking,
you age more frail than we;
a flirtation with summer
buried in fall breeze.
