Hearts for Trade

He only stole my heart and ran
But I couldn't catch your
open hand
Your fingers slipped through the spaces in mine
But still your sweet lyrics tingle
up my spine
I feel the warmth you left behind
Seeing your wonder in the stars
that shine

But some nights the moon wouldn't
glow
Somewhere deep down I thought you would
know
As your velvet voice sings me to sleep
There's something I have,
I feel selfish to keep

Still in my palm,
I could watch it all night
Shake my head and grin in
silent delight
As your eyes slipped closed and
dreams came
Your not the only one with an act for stealing
with no shame

When the sun rises,
I'll squint for a better view
And smile to myself,
as the morning sky turns blue
You'll figure it out soon and come racing back
Leaving dusk and dust and dreams
in your track

Cause in my hand I have your heart
I stole it while you had mine
with a running start
But maybe this time I'll catch your open hand
And together we'll run to places
far and unplanned
