Heartburn

Second nature
First degree
Zero compatibility
Overactive
Underfed
Eat myself as opposed to the daily bread
Shame is acid
Chewing away
The walls of my stomach and heart are inflamed
Rotted out bowels
Brittle empty veins
After 17 years
you can't call it pain

For the rest of my death
I'll have love in my chest
to wake me in the morning
and rock me to bed
I'm shaken a bit, but it's nothing to worry
I'm used to being tortured
and this curse is in no hurry

The numbers lie
According to my teacher
it's no profound idea or feature:
If they speak the truth
and they are as one,
then from honesty must lying come.

It hurts to think
I'm your enemy
even though you gave birth to me.
Through a lifetime of torture
there's one thing I've learned.
It doesn't take long for a strong heart to burn.
