Heartaches Slowly Numb

At first loss ruins all. Heartaches slowly numb.
The anguish gives a certain pall.
Yet better days will come.

Listen to a swan song. Heartaches slowly numb.
The seconds seem to drag along.
Yet better days will come.

Sweet flashes go amiss. Heartaches slowly numb.
The memory keeps a prior bliss.
Yet better days will come.

Fiction fades into fact. Heartaches slowly numb.
The brutal truth remains in tact.
Yet better days will come.

Final ticks overwhelm. Heartaches slowly numb.
The seafarer forsakes the helm.
Yet better days will come.

Recalls live a lifetime. Heartaches slowly numb.
The steep abyss is hard to climb.
Yet better days will come.
