He Died Today

My best friend died today
taking abnegation from longevity
taking somber measures from solemnity;
taking definitions from root gravity;
taking fragments from me to eternity.
My best friend was noble, benevolently kind;
a charitable man
of philanthropic mind.
My best friend was loyal to family and friend;
faithfully allegiant
until the bitter end.
My best friend was poignant with sensitivity;
passionately intense
in creativity.
My best friend died today
making a vacancy taste like hell's portion;
making reality sound like distortion;
making morbidity look like contortion;
making finality feel like extortion.
