Haphazard Life

If we strike the commandments
Shattered and spent
Shall we call it a haphazard life?
Or will our salvation depend on the cause
Of which truth we believe is right
If we lie on a bed of rusted nails
Should we worry about an infection
Or shall we play fools and break every rule
Oh the tides are always churning
Look to the sun, it appears sane
But everyday it is changing and burning
The heavens seem set in the sky like a crown
Always there and never turning
Yet even the stars when they die and fall
Will remind us time is changing
How crafty we seem to never abide
In a mold of conformity
Diffidence needs to prove that we
Are incapable of proving false
We shoot from the hip, take down hypocrites
Who play like their lives are saintly
Yes, we know quite well the bovine smell
They mask with pretensions perfume
How suddenly pious and free
A fool can make himself wise
To learn to despise, chastise every lie
And become the Holy of Holies
The suddenly, just like the sea
Brackish and fluxing within
All can seem calm, but swiftly harm
Bellows in chains to be free
Nature is cruel, yet so beautiful
Tomorrow it will be another
Life is a cloud defined different ways
And it fades before we agree.
