Grocery Cart

Destitute he begs for food in corridors of shame.
He panhandles with chagrin
yet misplaces the blame.

Aimlessly he wends his way to unspecified haunts.
He exhausts precious time
in extraneous jaunts.

Unemployed he idles days until going berserk.
He curses his misfortune
while recoiling from work.

Hopelessly he blankly stares at passing silhouettes.
He feels vicarious clout
playing marionettes.

Disconsolate he faces doom by surrender to fate.
He acts like a fugitive
from a garrison state.

Everything he owns today is in a grocery cart.
He pushes it on back streets
as lurid realms of art.
