Gray Skies

So I asked him how he felt today:
high and drunk, no surprise.
And I wondered, why take the feeling away?
Partying all night, sleeping all day.
Broken, maybe, with stifled cries.
Then I asked him how he felt today:
down and sober, full of lies.
It was then, I knew, he would pay.
So I wondered, why take the feeling away?
Dealing with the devil I so despise,
just so he could soar away?
Again I asked how he felt today:
he raged and screamed about his skies,
always, he said, always gray.
So I asked, why take the feeling away?
To be numb, to be happy, he surmised,
yet as I watched, he only decayed.
And when I asked how he felt today,
still I wondered, why take the feeling away?

Evelyn R. Vaughn

My name is Evelyn. I'm still in high school, and have a lot of ups and downs in my life. I've been through a lot, and have experience dealing with abuse. I guess I had to grow up fast. Writing helps me vent how I'm feeling without doing something irrational. I want to make my life better. I want to make other people's lives better. I reach out through my work.I want to publish a book someday. A book of poetry, and maybe a story of my own. Look for my name on the shelves in the future, because I guarantee that I will make it happen. This is my passion. more…
