Grandmother's Wisdom

“He said he loved me”,
My granddaughter cried
Pulling tissues from the box.
I wanted to take her in my arms
And explain that everything would be ok.
I am sure others have said
All those useless things;
Like it is just puppy love
Or you will meet someone else.
I pat her back and say nothing,
I just cannot bear to tell her
What age has taught me.
It hurts just as much
At sixteen or sixty,
When the guy you love says
“I don’t love you anymore.”
