Grandma's Front Porch Swing

Once upon a time, when I was young,
Grandma and I would have some fun
By going outside and sitting on her front porch swing.
By the light of day we'd watch the passing cars,
In the black of night we'd watch the falling stars,
And we'd sit and pass the breeze about most everything.

But time went by, and I grew up,
And it seems I had less and less time to stop,
And so Grandma would sit upon her porch swing all alone.
But if I could tell her anything,
It'd be how sitting on that front porch swing
Gave me so many happy memories now that I'm grown.

The world still turns and the sun still shines,
Each one a mark of passing time.
But that front porch swing still hangs where it's always been.
And though we would swing a little bit slower,
And though we would hang a little bit lower,
I sure would like to sit and swing with my Grandma again.
