Goodbye Old Friend

Today I will bury my old friend.
Eleven years gone by and now the end.
You were there for me through thin and thick,
Still giving me love when you were sick.

As you laid there dying, I wondered if I had done enough,
So many days when you had accidents that I treated you tough.
It is true what they say, "be kind to the littlest",
And, though I wasn't perfect, my life you blessed.

Now you lay there lifeless, expelled your last breath,
No more purrs to comfort me, filled with regrets.
But, enough about me, for the time is nigh.
I hope you fare well old friend and smile at me from on high.
