Gone are the days of old

Gone are the days of old,
all dragons slain for meager skins of gold.
Youngbloods no more
but unfettered by war-
arrogant without valor
boast words without core.

Courage, what courage?
No land nor love to fight for.
Bellies full
and hands idle,
fools lie sprawled
belching for more.

Mollycoddled and dull,
the mind grasps vainly at the blinding lull
in the ivory tower.
The heart tosses in despair
ashes of dreams lost betwixt
ropes of long golden hair.
