Gambling with Two Lives

Hours upon hours spent,
borrowed from an empty account
for an artful, creative intent,
hand been gambled away, now lost.
A bargain from the Devil’s heart
for which she gave her soul,
now, useless in part
because the careful construction is falling.
Jaded tears full of riches drown
the ounce of dignity that was left,
as the clinking of a crown
awakened the Devil’s steps.
Royalty was cheated
because the king she loved had died,
and with all her hope defeated,
her soul fell into the Devil’s grasp.
The kingdom had no time to gasp
as death seemed to steal life
and any opportunity to heal.
