Friendly foe

When my feet were deep in oil,
You sat with me even in the soil,
As the sun smiled and moved in my direction,
So also did I gain all your attention,
And my soul did bless you, oh what a friend!

You were there to witness my coronation,
As the crown set me as the head of the nation,
Your ovation loudest, your hails and dances the best,
Ready to serve, as your guests were all my guests,
And my soul was glad to have ever met you, oh what a friend!

We went about as Siamese twins, hand in hand,
You heard my cries; you saw what others would not understand,
My weaknesses were your strength,
For the long walks I could not bear you went the length,
And again, my soul is ever grateful to have you, oh what a friend!

As I sit amidst flies, worms, roaches and mosquitoes today,
I thought you'd be there again to stay as always,
I waited, and this time, watched and heard all you always said,
And I saw what you really meant by hosting my guests,
Yet again I muse and my soul laughs. Humans! Oh what a fiend!
