Fourty-Eight Seconds

Nobody loves me.
Nobody cares.
Nobody takes me to the mall.
I sleep on an old chair.

My sister's the pride
of my family.
I'm the twin no-one knows
exists, you see.

There's bruises from my parents
and scars from myself.
I add some more,
then I look at the shelf.

My sister's prescription,
my mother's pain meds.
I take everything.
So soon, I'll be dead.

Eight capsules of Tylenol,
24 grams of hydrocodone.
Fourty eight seconds.
So soon, shalom.

Blood rushes to my head.
My stomach aches.
I try not to vomit.
I'll be dead today.

I can no longer stand.
There's throbbing in my head.
I see flashes of light,
for now I am dead.
