Forever Young

We are old, because we no longer really
See each other as much as feel.

We are old, because we no longer really
Hear each other as much as read.

We are old, because we learned--the hard way,
To let go of that place in our children's lives
Where once we were central and--in command.

We are old, because we learned that
"Letting go" is never really leaving away,
Or living without, and that it really is
Our love maturing with confidence, because
It is acquiescence of our age, in fact.

We are old, not because we are in years;
We are old, because we have more yesterdays
Than we have tomorrows, and more old memories
Than we have young dreams.

We are old, but forever young
In our hearts, through all of time--
For our children and--for each other.
