For Sara's 18th Birthday

I search inside the place I hide
My happiness, just to write you this;
And what I find packed tightly mine
Are smiles like fine china
I have left far behind...

Perfectly placed, with matching plates,
Feather-painted peaks of three shades of blue,
With soft swirls of purple, tipped lavender too...

I see about the dance it brings;
I take them out, as my heart sings...
Then carefully I, as these smiles fly by,
Reach out to capture, this ghostly rapture,
As my childhood laughter
Echoes... and fills the room.
