Fear of Flight

Sadder than the solitary dove
Is the eagle that chose to die
Because it could not bravely fly,
Afraid the leap might prove badly
And so alone the heart dies sadly,
And becomes the saddest thereof
Because it could not bravely love.

Or that of a life lived entirely in vain
Never venturing, never gaining
Always and forever refraining,
Never having tasted the nectars
In life's many lovely flavored vectors,
Afraid the thorns might cause it pain
Choosing instead life's empty feigns.

Cry then O' world for more's the pity!
Cry, then bravely leap and fly!
Don't allow fear to blind your eyes,
Cry awhile, then spread your wings
And search the sky for nobler things,
Don't live in fear of life's ferocity
A heart incapable of love is an atrocity!
