Farewell To My Youth

...Where did she go so quickly?
Skipping and dreaming,
And crying and numb...
I would have said good-bye,
If I only knew
That she was leaving
In the abyss of autumn,
She begins to run...
I can almost see her now,
The child so lost and weeping
In her pretty pink nightgown,
Her mind much too kind for keeping;
And so I close my eyes,
Afar so fast she's fading!
There goes my Youth, my child,
Smiling as she's waving...
Fare ye well, my ghost,
I have been abandoned.
