False Pretenses

In this time of recession,
My face with no expression,
Hollowed by my confession,
Heed this languid life lesson.

The ambrosia quenches not,
The thirst that we all have sought,
Immortality to rot,
Buried beneath our bought plot.

No new Mercedes or Porsche,
Money the powerful force,
That lures many from their course,
In the end only remorse.

It's glittering what is real,
Fake plastic taken for steel,
Yet they pray at every meal,
Without layered skin to peel.

Hypocrites stealing the light,
Golden crosses are in spite,
My heart nailed by God's true might,
False pretenses by blurred sight.

Take your God and leave me be,
For I refuse to believe,
You praise Him so righteously,
When love sets you free, not greed!
