Fallen
Stripped bark bleeds red with blood
as the ground is soft with fresh mud.
All the animals come out to mourn
their old friend lay broken in scorn.
He had fought a valiant fight
but the storm grew stronger throughout the night.
With terrible screech and sullen sigh
the branch gave way to tumultuous sky.
To the ground it fled with fear
escaping the winds war-whoop cheer.
Scraping the sides of mother earth
touching now what gave it birth.
